There are a number of reasons why stress is so high these days and it’s not your fault. Much of the news we read, see and listen to is focussed on what’s wrong with the world and this lights up the stress response in your neurology and the amygdala in the brain.

The amygdala is responsible both for your survival fight-flight-freeze response, but also for deep fascination and curiousity which holds you spell bound, in a trance, to stay glued to the smart phone or TV. Thinking about what’s wrong all day distributes a toxic dump of chemicals to the rest of your body that is only meant for emergencies.

So, to feel joy, peace and calm again, we need to learn how to switch off that amygdala and switch on the rest of our brains – and then learn how to drive it in a way that suits us, rather than other people or the news corporations.
