The Overture is hugely popular, but the opera it precedes itself is very infrequently heard. A shame, as William Tell crowned Rossini’s hectically brief career; he wrote an amazing 39 operas in 19 years. Graham Abbott unpacks the overture and, as a bonus, some music from the opera.
