Gaylene Preston has been making films for more than fifty years. One of our most innovative storytellers, she has always sought out narratives which have yet to be told. From Mr Wrong to My Year with Helen, her films have a distinctive New Zealand flavour and a strong social message.

Her Ockham New Zealand Book Award longlisted memoir, Gaylene’s Take, charts her compelling journey as both filmmaker and human. We talk to her about the highs, the lows and the liberation you can find when you blaze your own trail.
