Exploring popular culture through an archetypal lens.

This workshop is aimed at counsellors and therapists.

This full day professional development workshop will explore the use of popular culture for self-understanding and growth through the lens of the archetypes (as defined by Carol S. Pearson).

We all know we can be inspired by Yoda and Winnie the Pooh, but what lessons can be learned from Gru (from Despicable Me) or the Mad Hatter? Do you have a little of Jack Sparrow in you, or maybe some of Wonder Woman? How can we employ this treasure trove of icons, heroes, helpers, sages – or whatever names they go by – in our work with clients – especially children?

In the morning we will focus on the 12 archetypes (as defined by Carol S. Pearson) – who are they, how do they apply to our lives? You will discover your own composition of archetypes with the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator®, and further explore what that means for you personally through creative arts. How do the archetypes manifest in you in particular? What do they have to say to you?

After lunch we will focus on using the archetypes to look at our popular culture heroes and villains, who’s who really? How do we use them in communicating with clients? This part of the workshop will be facilitated mainly as an interactive brainstorm, with everyone contributing and sharing, followed by an open ended creative activity – where you can create a resource based on what inspired you.
