Expert Talk
Join Otago Museum Science Communicator Ngaio Woods for this special Pride Month talk that posits that the Animal Kingdom may as well be called the Animal Queerdom.
Over the centuries, religious values and societal pressure have affected the way we perceive the natural world, effecting how we understand the origin of sexual reproduction and the prevalence of non-heterosexual behaviours.
There have been over 1500 species identified as having naturally occurring queerness within their populations, with more emerging all the time as scientists further engage in the study of this formerly forbidden field.
Join Ngaio as she questions the old ways, dismantles the concept of Darwin’s Paradox, and backs it all with passion and reputable peer-reviewed science.
4pm, Saturday 18 March
