Annette Straugheir & Charlotte Hird ….our waterecolours

This exhibition brings together two popular Wellington artists, Annette Straugheir and Charlotte Hird for an exhibition of their beautiful watercolours. Annette and Charlotte both enjoy watercolours as their favourite medium because of the transparency and looseness watercolour offers. Painting in watercolours give both artists a great deal of satisfaction, no other medium can achieve that luminous quality that they have in their paintings..

They are both inspired by Wellington city, suburbs and magnificent coastline.

Charlotte is an observational artist and paints in a contemporary realism style with a stark graphic quality using clear, transparent washes glowing with a crisp freshness. Her paintings on show reflect the shapes of nature’s land forms, with dark brooding valleys and clean ridges glowing in the light.

Annette’s paintings capture the magic of nature and the effects of sun and shadow to create realistic and detailed florals. She carefully uses transparent layers and washes of vibrant watercolours. Recent works inspired by urban sketching include ink and watercolours from the unique, architectural features of NZ historic buildings

Both artists exhibit regularly at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and are long standing members/exhibitors of Watercolour New Zealand and the Wellington Art Club. Charlotte teaches watercolours both in New Zealand and Japan.
