Our 5th VillageMusic Soirée for this '24 season, features our very own "Brave Caitlin Smith's Imaginary Band".

It's been quite a while since we last hosted Caitlin and in that Time Caitlin has been working on and crafting songs for her album and this performance promises to showcase some of that new material, along with Caitlin's interpretations of songs that influence her own compositions.

Brave Caitlin Smith’s Imaginary Band is the moniker for Caitlin Smith in whichever iteration your imagination can fantasize and conjure it: solo, duo, trio, or (as it was for the album launch) an 11 piece ensemble! As a trio Brave Caitlin Smith’s Imaginary Band toured Aotearoa in 2021 performing 22 gigs across the country for Arts on Tour. Caitlin Smith (piano and vocals), Lance McNicoll (guitar) and Steve Cournane (cajon percussion and cymbals) a dream team performing dazzling hybrid of jazz, soul, gospel and folk.

A mesmerizing, prolific and passionate performer, originals are sandwiched between the tastiest covers, especially the repertoire of her spiritual parents Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.

A couple of quotes from her recent tour down south tell us what to expect:

“Great talent - gifted singer-songwriter and a programme which was tantalising” - The Arts Centre, Christchurch
“Beautiful, brilliant, polished, and friendly. We felt truly blessed” - Balcairn Hall
“A wonderful performance by the whole band to a full house, simply gorgeous sounds enjoyed by a very happy audience” - The Laboratory

As always, bring friends, bring family, bring your ears and BYO - this will be another great listening occasion.
