LacLu explores freedom of expression in music-making via improvisation on original compositions as well as de-constructed familiar jazz tunes. Inspired by the spaciousness and spontaneity of the legendary trio of Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, and Paul Motian, LacLu’s approach prioritises raw emotion, group interplay, and interesting musical textures.

Continuing the cross-generational circle of mentorship and dialogue in jazz, Keith Price (40 years) is the convenor of jazz at the University of Auckland while Francesca Parussini (23) and Max Crook (21) are talented recent graduates.

Building upon performances at 151 Improv, Club 306, and The Wellington Jazz Festival, LacLu are excited to return to CJC in celebration of the release of their debut album, LacLu, available September 6th on all streaming platforms.

CJC Creative Jazz Club Aotearoa presents original contemporary jazz and improvised music, every Wednesday, 7.30-9.30pm.

Artist-led, and running almost uninterrupted since 2009, they host the finest musicians from around New Zealand, and frequent international guests, providing a platform to bring composing jazz musicians and audiences together.

CJC is pleased to partner with The Arts House Trust, to continue their mission, in a beautiful venue at the historic Pah Homestead, surrounded by contemporary art.

The Arts House Trust is one of the country’s largest collections of contemporary New Zealand art with approximately 10,000 works held. Based at the Pah Homestead in Hillsborough, Tāmaki Makaurau, the Arts House Trust is an independent charitable entity which supports and promotes art and culture nationally through exhibitions, public programmes, art loans, workshops, concerts and events.
