This is a special event as it combines the environmental forces of the Whakatipu Reforestation Trust, Wakatipu Wildlife Trust and the Department of Conservation at a location where all groups are making a difference.

Whakatipu Reforestation Trust volunteers started planting native trees & shrubs at Whitechapel Reserve in 2015, with over 21,500 natives planted to date. This once weed infested reserve is now flourishing, providing food and habitat for native birds, lizards and insects, and delighting cyclists and walkers along the trail.

An important of part providing habitat is protecting the wildlife that moves in, and the Trap Library allows locals to borrow a trap in order to protect their own back gardens from introduced predators like rats, stoats and possums.

DOC Rangers and Whakatipu Wildlife Trust representatives will be on hand to lend out the best trap for your situation and provide full instructions on how to use the traps.

And as an extra bonus, the team at Novus will be joining us and providing a coffee cart & community BBQ to keep our volunteers fuelled and happy!
