Come and join a group of friendly locals restoring and looking after Wainoni Park. Friends of Wainoni Park meet every Thursday morning from mid February until mid-December (we often have breaks over the school holidays so please email us to confirm). On Thursday 4th September, the group will be celebrating volunteering at the park for 6 years. Come and join us and learn about streamside regeneration. We have planting areas ranging from 6 years to 2 weeks old.
There are a range of tasks to suit a variety of fitness levels. This is a great opportunity to meet others while caring for Greenhithe's environment.
Activities include:
Walking around the streamside planting area and seeing how the maintenance varies as the plants mature.
Releasing recently planted and established native trees from pest plants (weeds);
Preparing areas for native plants;
Spreading mulch around native plantings;
Looking after the community edible garden; and
Getting fit whilst forming new friendships.
Please bring a cold drink, sunhat and wear shoes with a good grip.
Morning tea is supplied.
