Doubling Down: How Gene Duplication and Neofunctionalization May Underpin Sex Change in Teleost Fish Species.

Did you know that hundreds of fish species are able to change their sex? Some of them can even switch back and forth to suit their environment!

Join Jonika Edgecombe, a master's student in genetics at the University of Otago, to hear about the spectrum of sexual diversity in fish species and some of the genetic theories thought to underpin how fish are able to facilitate sex change.

Jonika will be presenting the findings from her honours thesis and review paper: Might Gene Duplication and Neofunctionalization Contribute to the Sexual Lability Observed in Fish?

11am, Wednesday 14 August
