Join us for an evening with award-winning authors Saraid de Silva (Amma) and Shilo Kino (All That We Know) as they discuss their bold novels exploring themes of identity, relationships and cultural navigation with writer Mairātea Mohi.

All That We Know by Shilo Kino (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Maniapoto)
Māreikura finds herself thrust into the spotlight as an accidental activist, navigating the complexities of language, friendships, relationships, and the two worlds she straddles – te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā.

This powerful novel follows three generations of women from the same family as their lives take them across continents, cultures, and personal journeys. As the author describes it, Amma is "a story about queerness, migration, rage, and revenge."

Meet the authors and facilitator

Shilo Kino is an award-winning author and journalist whose debut novel, The Pōrangi Boy, won the Young Adult Fiction award at the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

Saraid de Silva is a Sri Lankan Pākehā writer and creative. She co-hosts RNZ's Conversations with my Immigrant Parents podcast and video series, and her work has been featured in publications like A Clear Dawn: New Asian Voices from Aotearoa New Zealand. The manuscript of her debut novel, Amma, won the inaugural Crystal Arts Trust Prize.

Facilitated by Mairātea Mohi, a freelance writer with a passion for fashion's history and politics. Mairātea Mohi's journey began with Ngāti Rangiwewehi elders, leading her from bookworm to librarian, writer, editor, and now publisher with Auckland University Press. Dedicated to amplifying new voices, she's written for Sunday Magazine, The Press, and more, with credits in NUKU and Huarere.
