Join us at a Mini Science and Conservation Expo in Featherston’s ANZAC Hall for Conservation Week!
At this event, we’ll be sharing the findings of this year’s kākahi (freshwater mussel) count and celebrating 10 years of a successful citizen science programme.
These precious taonga support many other species, enrich our rivers and lakes and improve water quality by filtering gallons of water each day. After 10 years of community monitoring, we know that our mussels are in trouble, and we need to take action.
You’ll also get the chance to talk to experts from across the Moana and learn about the Kākahi population, sea level rise, native fish populations, hydrology, flood management, and historical events captured in the lakebed, among many other factors affecting this special animal’s future.
Let's come together as a community to have an important conservation conversation about the future of this species and plan for another decade of monitoring.
Everyone including tamariki is welcome.
Kai will be provided by Good Times Catering and Enviroschools will have activities for your tamariki to keep them busy.
Registration for this event is FREE.
