Well known for their multi-genre offering of pop, RnB, electronic and jazz, Aro fuse vocals, tāonga puoro and chants, as they explore the ideas of kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga - looking after ourselves, each other, and our environment.

The bilingual, Tāmaki Makaurau based duo, share a passion for the power of language and music to tell stories, and remind us of our cultural identity.

The fourth body of work from ‘Aro’, ‘He Rākau, He Ngārara’, celebrates native rākau & ngārara. The process included researching mātauranga Māori, related or relevant to, legends and whakataukī, with each waiata written with involvement from members of iwi and hapū that Charles belongs to.

When performing live, “they leave all who experience ‘Aro’, the feeling of being let in on a very special secret!” - Rosheen Fitzegerald (gig review at Common Room 2019).

‘Māoriland Presents’ is a series of unique live performances at the Māoriland Hub - home of the Māoriland Film Festival in the heart of Ōtaki.
