How do we make international touring and artistic collaboration more sustainable? When New Zealand is so far away from the rest of the world, how can we ensure a long life for our theatre works, and also be climate responsible? Contemporary performance group Binge Culture (NZ) and game-theatre collective machina eX (Germany) are currently trialling an artistic exchange process - at the end of which two international productions will be presented in Aotearoa and Germany without having to travel a single air mile.

Binge Culture is proud to collaborate with interactive innovators machina eX on bringing their work Disaster to Aotearoa, performing at the Hannah Playhouse in Wellington 1 - 6 October. Meanwhile, machina eX are preparing to present the original Binge Culture show You and A.I. in Düsseldorf in 2025. As well as bringing our work to the world and vice versa, the two companies are excited to have the opportunity to engage deliberately with the artistic strategies, technical means, and working methods of their international colleagues.

In this forum, we invite Pōneke’s theatre industry together to meet with Binge Culture and machina eX in a panel facilitated by green theatremakers Trick of the Light. Find out more about the sharing of interactive work, the artistic exchange process, and what the long-term goals are for touring works this way.
