Paper is such a common material but have you ever wondered what it actually is? Join this 3-hour workshop and find out how to make your own paper using native plants, including harakeke. All materials provided.

The workshop will combine the history and social impact of paper with the opportunity for you to make your own paper from native plants, and get your share of what we’ll make.

As well as making simple papers, take the chance to express your creative ideas and explore techniques for making unique paper and paper-based products.

Suitable for all skill levels - you just need a willingness to get your hands wet!

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:
- Understand what paper is, how it is made and the origins of papermaking
- Recognise how paper differs from other writing surfaces e.g. amate, papyrus and tapa
- Describe how and why different papers have different properties
- Make paper from a suspension of pulp in water • Describe the how and why of the pressing and drying stages
- Describe how to make papermaking equipment

All materials included. (Note: Finished papers will be posted out after the workshop, once they’ve had a chance to dry).

Presented by Rob Kennedy.
