Piano and Violin Concert Stefan Doniga and Diana Jipa

Please join us for an extraordinary concert Road to Freedom- Romania Universalis with Diana Jipa and Stefan Doniga to be the first artists to tour 6 continents in 30 days.

On September 21, 2024, at 6:30 PM, at St. Mary's Cathedral Parnell in Auckland, violinist Diana Jipa and pianist Ștefan Doniga will bring to New Zealand a unique tour in the history of Romanian music: "The Road to Freedom." This concert is part of a series of six events taking place on six different continents, in a tour dedicated to promoting Romania's cultural heritage on the international stage.

"The Road to Freedom" is a symbolic exploration of freedom through art, representing a tribute to the 35th anniversary of the Romanian Revolution. The tour reflects the commitment of these two artists to convey a message of unity, peace, and respect for cultural diversity to audiences worldwide, in a world marked by conflicts. The German, Hungarian, Aromanian, Italian, or Jewish cultural influences of the ten composers selected for this project's repertoire fully illustrate these values, with each piece demonstrating how music can create historical connections between cultures and nations.

Myriam Marbé – Humoresque (arranged for violin and piano by Diana Jipa/Ștefan Doniga)
Adrian Iorgulescu – "4 Sound Inscriptions" for solo piano
Roman Vlad – "The Road to Freedom" for solo violin – world premiere (commissioned for this tour)
Dinu Lipatti – Theme with Variations from Sonatina for violin and piano, Op. 1
Béla Bartók – Six Romanian Folk Dances (version for violin and piano by Zoltán Székely)
Dan Dediu – "Dragon" for violin and piano from the suite "A Mythological Bestiary," Op. 133
