We are busy welcoming new families from Myanmar and from Latin America, so we are keen to meet up with potential refugee support volunteers who are keen to welcome and support former refugees as they embark on their resettlement journey.

You’ll make new friends as well as doing something really positive to support a family as they complete their refugee journey.

In Blenheim we are running a “mixed model” training (partly at home in your own time and partly face to face) and our placements last for just 6 weeks. It’s a busy role, but we always work in teams so the work is shared around.

The Refugee Support Volunteer Role
You’ll be helping people navigate life in a new country, which might include:
- Setting up a home for a family or individual before they move in.
- Connecting people with schools, English classes, GPs, and other services.
- Helping the family navigate the town.
- Learning about another culture and sharing your own.
- Being a friendly, welcoming presence.

There is a training course planned for Blenheim on the 31st August, 10am-2pm. We’d love it if you would register to attend the training and be part of the adventure!

To express interest, or to make an enquiry, text to John (Regional Trainer) on 027 223 5972. Or email john.adams@redcross.org.nz
