Christchurch audiences are in for a treat this October with the debut of Rest Home Rockers, a lively musical comedy that promises to bring joy, laughter, and a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Running from October 2nd to 12th, 2024, this delightful production is written and directed by Doug Clarke, with musical direction by Sarah Templeton and choreography by Karyn Gibson.
Set in the quirky Rickety Manor, Rest Home Rockers offers a humorous glimpse into the lives of its eccentric residents. Unlike your typical retirement home, Rickety Manor is full of life and surprises, where the residents are as vibrant as the 60s and 70s tunes that form the soundtrack of the show. Audiences can expect a light-hearted storyline filled with fun, frolics, and a touch of mystery.
The plot follows a television crew from Tapestry Television as they attempt to document the inner workings of Rickety Manor, uncovering the secrets and escapades of its residents along the way. From the mysterious reasons behind Tabitha Brougham’s forced “rest” to the antics of secret tippler Betty Bottlebrush and heart-throb Thomas Tomson, the story weaves together humour and intrigue. Add in a visit from the past by Constance (Lady) Chatterley and the cross-dressing antics of Ivan Inners, and you have a recipe for a side-splitting, foot-tapping good time.
The musical features a stellar cast of 13 women and 6 men who will bring the stage to life with their performances. Audiences can look forward to classic hits like “Lipstick On Your Collar,” “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” “My Ding-a’Ling,” “Paper Roses,” and many more, all performed with energy and flair. And don’t miss the unique geriatric ballet, complete with wheelchairs, zimmer frames, and walking aids, or the secret rendezvous in the sauna – it’s all part of the fun!
Rest Home Rockers is more than just a musical; it’s a celebration of life, laughter, and the timeless appeal of the music that defined a generation. Whether you’re a fan of the 60s and 70s or just looking for a night of great entertainment, this show is not to be missed.
