Come along for an introduction to tchimiriki/tamariki/children’s rongo/songs in Moriori! You’ll have a chance to make and decorate a porotiti, a taonga puoro/musical instrument that emulates the sound of the wind, and learn a rongo to sing while you play it.

Your leaders for this activity will be Ajay Peni Ataera, full-time touring Moriori musician and rongo composer, and Jakana Lanauze Phillips a musician and rongo singer, both of whom were born and raised in Rēkohu/Wharekauri/the Chatham Islands.

This workshop is being offered alongside the exhibition Hou Rongo – Moriori | Music | Manawa, which will feature in the Beautiful Science Gallery from 14 September – 27 October 2024.

Suitable for ages 8-12.

2pm, Sunday 15 September
