Rose Light and Gabriel Baird Recital

All are welcome to enjoy a beautiful evening of romantic music performed by violinist Rose
Light and pianist Gabriel Baird.

Rose and Gabriel are two of Christchurch's most outstanding young musicians and have
been performing together since 2021. This recital will include favourites by Tchaikovsky,
Mozart, Bach and some delightful surprises!

This event is a fundraiser for Rose to continue studying violin at university in Austria. She is
returning to NZ in December to compete as a Semi Finalist in the NZ National String
Competition and is delighted to be able to perform this concert at home before the
competition.

About the performers:
Rose Light is a 20 year old violinist from Christchurch. Her accolades include winning
Second Place in the Stockholm International Music Competition 2024, First Place in the
International Note-Able Instrumental Competition in 2022 and second place in the
Wellington Concerto Competition 2023. Her string quartet won the Queensland International
Chamber Music Competition 2019 (Under 18s) and her piano trio won the 2021 NZCT
Chamber Music Contest Silver Award. Rose was selected as one of six Violin Fellows for
the Michael Hill International Violin Competition (2023). In 2024, she was accepted for the
Stefan Milenkovic Music Institute (Serbia), the Domaine Forget Academy (Quebec) and
invited to join Sinfonia Smith Square (London orchestra) on tour in Italy. Rose plays on a
Riccardo Bergonzi Violin ‘Vivace’ c.2005, made available through a generous loan by the
Hill Family Foundation’s Instrument Bank.

Gabriel Baird is a brilliant pianist and bassoonist in Christchurch. He has recently graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Music and works as Associate Principal Bassoonist with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Gabriel performs on piano around New Zealand as a soloist, accompanist and collaborator, and as an improvising musician at the Court Theatre. Additionally he has experience as a conductor, composer, and arranger, including work with Enchanting Productions. When not doing all these music things you can find Gabe doing other music things; listening to music, talking about music, reading about music, and writing bios for his upcoming performances.

This is Rose's only trip back to NZ in the near future as she now studies in Austria. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see two of Christchurch's best young musicians and to enjoy a sublime evening of music. We look forward to seeing you there!
