Muse is excited to showcase a special pop-up exhibition featuring the delightful and quirky paintings of Tom Armstrong, an artist from Ashley Clinton. Known for his whimsical style, Armstrong's work is framed in equally quirky, rustic frames made by Tom and the team at Edges.
Armstrong studied art in Dunedin in the 1980s under European-trained Walden Tucker. His work draws inspiration from 19th and 20th-century painters, blending these influences with elements of Greek mythology, carnivals, and music, alongside local references.
His paintings transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, with dream-like figures and complex compositions of colour, texture, and shape. His paintings offer a unique observation of everyday life, reimagined through Armstrong's richly packed and constructed visual narratives.
This Showcase runs from the 5th of July until the 19th of July.
