Join Conservation Volunteers NZ for a tree rescue and tamariki for tuna event along the Papakura Stream. Hear about the importance of the longfin eel, learn water quality testing and help us with 'tree rescue' where we will release our native plants and give them the best chance of survival. Once our native trees and shrubs have been planted, we need to return to our planting sites to continue caring for these plants for the next 3- 5 years. Strangling weeds such as bindweed and kikuyu grass can often grow rapidly and smother juvenile trees. Caring for these plants is a big job, and we couldn't do it without your help.

The Papakura Stream Restoration Project aims to restore and protect stream banks and water quality, as well as habitat for native species, through fencing (with Future Posts – recycled plastic fence posts), planting native trees, water quality monitoring, and community engagement on both public and private land.

Please note: Children 14 years and under are to be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

What to wear: Sturdy boots/shoes or gumboots, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, bring with you a sun hat, waterproof jacket. Tree planting can be muddy work, so make sure you wear clothing and footwear that you don't mind getting dirty.
