Bay of Islands Walking Weekend
Friday 11th, Saturday 12th October
Walk 11 – Moturua Island Song the Kiwi way with Barefoot Sailing Adventures

Kopiko is a spacious catamaran and a comfortable cruiser with a flat bottom, happily skipping along the waves at a gentle pace and eagerly awaiting a good stiff breeze where she comes into her own. The experienced and qualified team will take you on a modern-day environmentally-conscious sailing adventure to Moturua Island.

Once at Moturua Island you will disembark for fantastic walking with prolific birdlife, many of the beaches have their own unique archaeological historical perspective. A beach you visit is one of the earliest known landing sites of voyaging Polynesians. Diggings have revealed a collection of artefacts dated back to approximately 1320.

Moturua was host to some early French explorers, a significant farming operation supplying milk to the mainland, a substantial defence battery and barracks, an underground network of bunkers communication and water reservoir. Enjoy the fantastic birdlife and views.

Lunch is included and is a deli sandwich, fruit, lamington cake, muesli bar and potato chips.
Tea and coffee provided on the way out, and a cold drink on the way home.

2. The Russell Bowling Club is our Walking Weekend HQ, all walks start from there.

Our guides are all passionate and knowledgeable about the Bay of Islands area and bring something special to the walking experience. Each walk has no more than 20 people. Our HQ is the Russell Bowling Club where people can meet, chat about their day and have something to eat and drink.

Russell is a fantastic base for the weekend with lots of great restaurants, places to stay and for the non-walkers out there. We are very excited about this weekend and the great walking experiences there are here in the Bay of Islands. Time to get your walking boots out of the cupboard and join us in the Bay of Islands.

Visit our website to see all the walks you can do.
