Whangarei Chess Club's annual tournament offers an Open section on Saturday 14th September with longer games ($20 entry, 25 minutes per player) and a Schools day on Sunday 15th (free, 10 minutes per player). Stronger schools players are welcome to enter both days. There are seven rounds with opponents chosen by Swiss rules so you mostly meet players of similar ability.
